Here I bring you the trailer for ‘The Pirates! Band of Misfits “(” Pirates! Gang of misfits’), the latest stop-motion production of the famous British animation studio, in collaboration with Sony Pictures Animation. Personally I cannot wait to see it, not only has good looks, but because I love stories about pirates, and unfortunately now almost not made. And when you do, ruin the magic, humor and adventure with products intended only to obliterate box office, not to captivate, excite or arouse the imagination.

Hugh Grant, Martin Freeman, David Tennant, Brendan Gleeson, Jeremy Piven, Salma Hayek, Imelda Staunton, Ashley Jensen and Russell Tovey, among others, put their voices to the characters in the film, which was co-directed by Peter Lord (“Chicken Run ‘) and Jeff Newitt. Written by Gideon Defoe, ‘The Pirates! Band of Misfits “focuses on the Pirate Captain (Grant), who begins a journey full of dangers and adventures to defeat his rival Black Bellamy (Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Hayek), and win the prize for Best Pirate year. Unfortunately, much remains for us to see the movie, opens in theaters March 30 2D and 3D.

After the hiatus forced by the coverage of the Cannes festival, recovery Blogdecine polls now, hoping that you still continue to generate fun and resulting discussion in the comments. After spending the last two questionnaires to action films (the first devoted to movies, directors and actors, the second sequence), my first intention was to continue with genres, comedy and terror, and then I remembered something still bothers some and is considering the animated film as a genre (still long, and sometimes, copying data to the posts of new releases, we have been casting error). I also remembered the controversy started by the unfortunate comments of the writer Vicente Molina Foix, the enemy of the clay. And we have very recent campaign for Disney & Pixar ‘Toy Story 3′ not only compete for the Oscar for best film, but it won, considering he got the best reviews of 2010.

Therefore, I concluded that I could not wait to take a survey dedicated to animated films. For you to vote for best film, the worst, and the director who most inspired and you think your favorite animated character. I also added a fifth question for you to leave your opinion on the valuation received by animated films, if you think are undervalued, overvalued … As always, the answers that appear are only proposals, suggestions of mine, based on popular lists I find on the net and in my own tastes, but you have to choose any of them, that is why I included the “other” option, where you can write what you want. And you do not have to answer all, just what I want. Without further ado, I encourage you to check out the questionnaire and make it clear in the comments what you think about the animated film.

A short film that is very different from what we put in the early hours of the day (for that was done with computer animation while this is made possible by the very old and weird technique of “stop-motion”), and I do not know very well if it fits better the adjective dark or beautiful and fascinating, because this new work of the Brazilian study Animatorio kids how wonderful mixture with very disturbing (and stimulating) easily. This is the second in a series that have been titled ‘Praepostere’, in seeking to establish a visual and thematic line, and in studying the cycles of evolution in nature. This is much longer than the first and more interesting.

‘Neomorphus’ presents a very careful staging, and a fertile imagination when inventing creatures with very different objects, which die back each time to transform to survive. As promising starting point is exploited to the limit, overflowing with imagery, and finds its echoes in the Russian school of “stop-motion” and with many nods to horror films known to all, creating some truly disturbing images, almost nightmarish, demonstrating the talent of this team of creators. Enjoy it; it is a very thorough job.

I usually do not hallucinate the daily animated shorts that I look for the network, but in this case I cannot help but tip my hat. Those of Polyn, the company Filmakademie BW, presented in 2010 with an absolutely amazing animated short, from the hand of directors Jan Bitzer, Ilija Bruncken, Csaba Letay, with great sound of Joel Corelitz and a dozen artists Airstream Studio.

This is an exact replica (read that officials investigated for a long time to make it as true to life … in a very welcome visual abstraction) from the attack of a spider to a moth that has fallen on your network. I bored eater nature documentaries of all kinds; I have seen similar things in nature and attest to the work. A huge effort in design, motion modeling. As I said, removing his hat and cheer. All this topped with a final sequence of an abstraction literally hypnotic. For the most sensitive spiders need to eat.

It lasts just over seven minutes, black and white, apart from proposing an overwhelming imagery, with a great sense of atmosphere and sound manicured Joe Tate tells a story without dialogue that borders on, or rather come in the world of magical realism with ease. A fisherman is a matter of amazing properties, able to absorb almost anything, and that continues to grow as it feeds.

Magic, distressing, harrowing, I think an excellent film. Leo out there that Prosser is a short film and an artist to be reckoned with. Judging from this work done for the Royal College of Art in London in 2011, certainly go right. Enjoy it.

But they did not realize that their aspirations could jeopardize what they want most: each other.

Well, I guess if you give him the “play” in the trailer of “Green With Envy ‘before reading these words will have already discovered that it is a fake movie created to confuse. And actually, this breakthrough is the first teaser of ‘The Muppets’ (‘The Muppets’), a film that will premiere in the U.S.. UU. Nov. 23.

Update May 28th: We have released another teaser, entitled ‘The Fuzzy Pack, you can see below:

What is certain is that Jason Segel will and Amy Adams, in addition to Peggy (Miss Piggy)-with whom I am certainly not the only one who thought that Adams keeps a considerable resemblance, and Kermit the Frog (Kermitt the Frog). Other performers will be Emily Blunt, Zach Galifianakis, Neil Patrick Harris, Danny Trejo, Rashida Jones, Ricky Gervais, Whoopi Goldberg, Billy Crystal, Liza Minnelli, Mickey Rooney, in a long list of famous names who will join the characters created by Jim Henson.

The film, directed by James Bobin, with Jason Segel and screenplay by Nicholas Stoller, tells us that the Muppets have to meet for, with the help of three of his followers, to save his former producer of a greedy oil tycoon.

It is a montage of just 5 minutes which pays tribute to the work of the Pixar studio, which last month turned 25 in February. 25 years summed up in a glorious 5 minutes. As our colleague Miguel advised Michan, go up the volume, put the video full screen and get ready for a shot of excitement priceless.

I bring this advantage, I commented that more information on the announced sequel to Monsters, Inc. “(” Monsters, Inc. “). It is now official that the title will be “Monsters University,” but the point is that history does not continue the 2001 film but that will elapse before it will be a prequel. However it is known that the plot will revolve around the characters of Sully and Mike, retelling the voices of John Goodman and Billy Crystal. The premiere is scheduled for November 2, 2012 and apparently repeated as director Pete Docter.

Finally, I bring you the first official images of ‘Brave’, other upcoming films in the study. There are photos of the film but fine art, or conceptual art. Still, we had better to whet your appetite, and the film comes just months before the prequel to ‘Monsters’, the June 22, 2012. Eye, because next year, namely March 9, also premieres’ John Carter of Mars, the first studio film with flesh and blood actors, directed by Andrew Stanton (“Nemo Find us’, ‘WALL E ‘). Ie three Pixar productions label in 2012. Hey, if it is true that the apocalypse is near, at least we will leave happy.

Returning to ‘Brave’, I comment that is directed by debutant Mark Andrews, who recently replaced what was to be the first filmmaker in the history of Pixar, Brenda Chapman (something I do not think has been good advocates for certain sectors of the politically correct, assuming you have heard), and the story of the film will take us to the Highlands of Scotland, telling the adventures of a brave princess who does not want to continue the path they have laid out for her. I leave you with the official synopsis:

Kelly Macdonald gives voice to Merida, daughter of King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson). Merida is determined to carve their own path in life and defies ancient and sacred practice of noisy lords of the land: the great Lord MacGuffin (Kevin McKidd), the sullen Lord Macintosh (Craig Ferguson) and the cantankerous Lord Dingwall (Robbie Coltrane). Unwittingly or drink, the decisions of Merida trigger chaos and anger in the kingdom. And when you go to an eccentric and wise old woman (Julie Walters) seeking help, you are granted a hapless desire. The huge danger to Merida force to discover the meaning of true value: it will have to undo a terrible curse before it’s too late.

Here I bring you the new poster for ‘Cars 2′. You know that this is the next film from Pixar to hit our screens, on July 6 (U.S. June 24) in room 2D, 3D and IMAX, and everywhere, as always distributed by the almighty Disney, whose animation studios seem determined to compete with DreamWorks, where interestingly there are trying to look at Pixar. The truth is that turns me off at the prospect of seeing a sequel to ‘Cars’, but I will not miss anything that bears the stamp of flexo, especially after showing they could be overcome with a third party, would have been normal when I relax and just repeat the pattern of the previous installments.

In light of the progress we have seen, it seems clear that ‘Cars 2′ will try to surprise us again. Eye because the film is co-directed by John Lasseter, the big boss of the company, whose last job was precisely that facet ‘Cars’, five years ago, Brad Lewis has been assigned to assist with the work of realization, which is his debut in the film. The original voices of the characters are handled by Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy, Michael Caine, Emily Mortimer, Jason Isaacs, Joe Mantegna, Bonnie Hunt, Cheech Marin, Tony Shalhoub and Bruce Campbell, among others, and put the music Michael Giacchino. As for the plot focuses on the adventures of Lightning McQueen and Mater abroad to compete in a race that will determine the world’s fastest car, but the road to the championship will be full of potholes, detours and surprises Mate looks when caught in a web of international espionage to save the life of a British secret agent named Finn McMissile.

“We all admire Pixar”
To mark the upcoming release of ‘Gnomeo and Juliet’ (‘Gnomeo & Juliet’), which arrives tomorrow at Spanish cinemas, I had the opportunity to meet Carlos Zaragoza a couple of weeks. Carlos worked in the artistic direction of “Pan’s Labyrinth ‘(awarded a Goya) and now specializes in the scenery in the animated film, part of the selected template DreamWorks Animation. In this interview talks about his participation in ‘Gnomeo and Juliet’ (which is distributed by Disney), experience in DreamWorks and other topics related to film and animation. I hope you will be an interesting read.

* We have not seen ‘Gnomeo and Juliet’, but can you tell us how the experience was?

I was living in London, had completed another 3D animated film, ‘The Tale of Despereaux’ (‘The Tale of Despereaux “) and joined’ Gnomeo and Juliet ‘during pre-production. In principle, for me the gnomes had a very negative karma (for background television in particular) and in Spain there is no culture of “garden gnomes” (garden gnomes). However, after seeing the complete storyboard and listen to the film’s director, Kelly Asbury seemed like a great idea. In ‘Gnomeo …’ I worked on the design of various scenarios, as the two neighboring gardens of the protagonists.

Gnomeo-and-Juliet-posterEl tone is comedy, and characters are plaster garden gnomes come to life when humans are gone, but the intent of the visual style was’ “realistic” Our inspiration was reality, gardens individuals with kitsch decor you can find in places like Stratford-Upon-Avon, Shakespeare’s hometown.

The film began production later in Starz Animation in Toronto, where I stayed for a year. Before ‘Gnomeo …’ had been ‘Number 9′ (’9 ‘), directed by Shane Acker. Starz has a team of art very well, almost all trained at Sheridan College, one of the best animation schools in the world, it’s there.

* Now part of the team at DreamWorks, how did you get there?

It came while he was still working on ‘Gnomeo and Juliet’ in Canada. They sought a “set designer”, I sent them my portfolio, I had an interview and was offered a contract. I did not think twice, I think it’s a great opportunity to develop my career in a big studio. Specifically I’m in the studio in northern California (PDI), near San Francisco.

* What exactly is your job as a “set designer” (“stage designer”)?

The “set designer” in a production of 3D animation film works within the department of art, design settings where develops the story told. Under the supervision of production designer and art director, generates 3D models, drawings and diagrams that explain clearly how the design of these scenarios, and provides that information to other departments such as pre-visualization, “layout”, modeling and VFX, which are the final models developed.

I am currently developing the design scenarios in 3D, which allows me to use virtual cameras and have a better idea of how they will be in the movie. This is especially interesting when you are developing complex scenarios such as a city, with several action sequences, but I always start my work with a pencil and paper.

* Can you tell what it is like the atmosphere at DreamWorks, how it works?

It is as advertised in the media: cool atmosphere, flexible hours, meals and free gym, parties, people who go on scooter through the halls … and the certainty of being in the heart of the industry: this week is George Lucas to give a conference … Still have to work. I’m surrounded by super-talented artist and you have to keep up.

Dreamworks-studio-logo

* How do you see competition in the animated film? Sure you hate force throw darts at Pixar and John Lasseter photos …

No, no way, everyone here admires the work of Pixar. No one lives the fierce competition of the talk in the news. For example, Pete Docter, director of “Monsters, Inc. ‘and’ up ‘, gave a lecture here a few months ago, and was unharmed. The competition for both Pixar and DreamWorks are now comes from other studies, and that’s very good to continue to evolve.

* Can you tell us your occupation now?

I am currently working in ‘Madagascar 3′, directed by Eric Darnell, due for release in summer 2012. I can not say much before the premiere: the story is an inner journey (and a real trip) of the players from Africa, through several countries in Europe to New York.

* Also have experience in live-action film, are very different worlds?

Before working in animation, I worked in live action film for seven years, “set designer” and “art director”. I think cinema in general is looking for new ways to tell stories and engage the public. The conventional film, the animation and gaming go hand in hand, look and copy each other. Regarding the design, more is more like, for example, the process in the pre-production on a sci-fi, historical, or fantasy, a 3D animation.

As a designer you have to know the technique that will make each work (if conventional, settings and physical locations, or created digitally) and I know both. What I like about animation is that you can always design appears absolutely everything, including the characters.

I’m not the first professional film real image that is interested in animation. When I arrived I found DreamWorks Guillermo Navarro, cinematographer of “Pan’s Labyrinth ‘, working on the same project that I,” Madagascar 3 “, as” visual consultant “. A few months ago, Jeffrey Katzenberg announced that it had signed Guillermo del Toro to work at DreamWorks, and is now executive producer of ‘Kung Fu Panda 2′ or ‘Puss in Boots’, and direct a film.

Madagascar-3d-Dreamworks * what do you think of stereoscopic 3D, do you think will leave the 2D?

I do not know, media that are used to watching films are changing so fast that I could not tell that can happen in a few years. Surely, as the technology improves (we now have TV screens without the use of stereoscopic glasses) the 3D business grow and become general filming and dissemination of audiovisual stereoscopic.

The feeling that brings the 3D space is not essential for much of the movie is done now, but neither was the color for much of the film of the 30′s, yet eventually stopped producing white film and black, and now the TV networks do not schedule (live Netflix!).

* Still the animation is not American?

Always, everything is done in short, usually less conventional. And films like ‘Persepolis’,’ Waltz with Bashir ‘,’ Tekkon Kinkreet ‘, all of Studio Ghibli (‘ Ponyo ‘,’ Spirited Away’…), Katsuhiro Otomo (‘Steamboy’, ‘Memories’ ‘Akira’…), Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell’, ‘Innocence’)…

* What advice would you give to someone wanting to pursue animation?

I would advise not to waste time and try to access the best possible training, and to feed their creativity constantly traveling, be curious, to experience … The visual, not just the animation, you need people with new ideas and different points of view.
